VA Tech drops player over Temple betting probe

Temple transfer Hysier Miller has been dismissed from the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team amid a sports betting investigation of Temple, Sports Illustrated reported on 23 October. Last spring, Temple’s game against UAB was flagged for “suspicious activity” by US Integrity. The line for the game opened with UAB as a 1.5-point favourite, but moved to as high as eight. Miller scored eight points and committed three turnovers. His season average was 16 points per game.

That game was the second in which Temple did not cover a point spread – UAB won, 100-72. Despite having a losing regular season, Temple advanced to the ACC championship game and Miller averaged 27.8 points per game during the conference tournament. Bovada may feel hit of exiting US markets more for igaming than wagering

Analysing the financial blow to the offshore operator now that it is blocked in 15 jurisdictions.
Bovada could see a significant financial impact from 15 US markets – and counting – sending it cease-and-desist letters.

But maybe not in the way you would expect, according to one gambling expert.

Massachusetts recently sent a cease-and-desist letter to Bovada, the offshore betting megasite, joining Kansas, Pennsylvania and Louisiana as recent additions to its list of restricted markets. Anyone can find that list on its website under the “Which Countries are Restricted?” section – which only includes US markets and no other locations around the world.

MAC to require football injury reports
The Mid-American Conference (MAC) earlier this week became the second US college football conference to require injury reporting, the Associated Press reported on Thursday (22 August). The Big Ten was the first in 2023 and the SEC is considering the mandate.
