Kansas sets new sports betting handle and revenue records in October

Kansas broke its sports betting handle record for the second straight month in October, with players wagering $249.7m (£203.9m/€233.8m), while revenue also reached a new high.

The monthly handle beat the previous record of $219.3m in September by 13.9%. It was also 31.5% ahead of $189.9m in Kansas in October 2022.

Of all wagers placed in Kansas during the month, $240.9m were with online operators and $8.8m at retail sportsbooks.

As for revenue, this amounted to $14.4m across online and retail, representing a new record for Kansas.

In total, some $13.1m of revenue came from online betting and $1.2m retail.

Boot Hill Casino and DraftKings lead online in Kansas

Boot Hill Casino and DraftKings remain the clear online leaders in the Kansas market. The partnership generated $6.3m in online revenue from $114.3m in bets.

New York sets US-first with $2bn online sports betting handle in October

New York in October became the first US state to process over $2.00bn (£1.64bn/€1.87bn) in online sports bets during a single month, while revenue also hit a new high in the market.

Players in New York wagered a total of $2.01bn online and via mobile in October. This is the highest ever for a state in the US offering legal sports betting to consumers.

The October total was 30.5% ahead of $1.54bn reported in the same month of last year. This figure was also 14.2% up from $1.76bn in September this year.

Monthly revenue in New York also reached a new high of $166.3m. This was marginally up from the previous record of $165.5m set in September and 14.1% higher than $145.7m last year. Mobile betting has been available in New York since January 2022.

FanDuel remains the market leader in New York

Turning to individual operators, Flutter Entertainment-owned FanDuel continues to lead the New York market. In October, Flutter posted $83.1m in revenue from $891.9m in internet-based wagers.

Lithuania revenue up to €161m in first nine months after online growth

Gross gambling revenue (GGR) in Lithuania increased by 15.2% year-on-year to €161.0m (£140.8m/$172.1m) during the nine months to 30 September, driven by growth within the remote gambling sector.

Revenue was comfortably higher than the $139.8m reported in the same period last year. The Gaming Control Authority, which regulates gambling in Lithuania, recorded growth across both the online and land-based markets.

Remote gambling led the way with €107.0m in GGR, up 24.4% from €86.0m last year. Land-based gambling GGR also edged up 0.4% to €54.0m for the period.

Lithuania online slots revenue exceeds €72m

Online slot machines generated the most revenue during the nine-month period. GGR from Category A online slots reached $69.5m, up 33.7%, while Category B slots GGR increased 18.2% to €2.6m.

Total GGR from online slot machines for the reporting period amounted to €72.1m.

EveryMatrix winning streak continues as casino record broken again in Q3

EveryMatrix generated record net revenue in its latest trading period with huge gains across both its casino and sports verticals.

EveryMatrix saw revenue up 79% year-on-year to €60m ($64.2m/£52.1m) during the three months to 30 September. Net revenue reached a record €27.2m, which was up 62%, and with a three-year CAGR of 47%.

The technology supplier’s success was driven by strong growth across business segments. It was yet another record quarter for casino, with operator clients generating €463m in gross gaming revenue (GGR), up 77%. Sports turnover surged by 85% to €810m, and GGR increased by 26%. This is despite headwind from exchange rate effects, sports results and increased odds promotion from its large clients.

This is the third consecutive quarter with organic net revenue growth above 50%.

Nevada gambling revenue climbs to $1.27bn in September

Gambling revenue in Nevada edged up 1.6% year-on-year to $1.27bn in September, despite a decline in slots revenue.

Revenue for the month was marginally higher than $1.25bn in September 2022. The total was also 5.0% ahead of $1.21bn in Nevada in August of this year.

Slots were again the primary source of revenue in Nevada, generating $814.6m during the month of September. However, this was 5.1% less than in the same month last year.

Multi-denomination slots were the game of choice for consumers, drawing $473.9m worth of revenue, up 5.7%. Penny slots collected $249.0m, which was 16.8% lower than in 2022.

Nevada baccarat revenue rockets 85.8%

Meanwhile, table, counter and card games revenue increased 16.6% to $456.0m. Baccarat proved most popular with players, generating $148.8m in revenue, up 85.8% on last year.

As for other games, blackjack revenue climbed 12.9% to $97.7m and revenue from craps increased 12.2% to $36.5m. However, roulette revenue slipped 8.9% to $36.9m.

Rhode Island sports betting handle hits six-month high in September

Players in Rhode Island spent $37.6m betting on sports in September, the highest monthly total since March but lower than last year.

The figure is 9.8% less than the $41.7m spent in Rhode Island in September 2022. However, it is 67.1% more than $22.5m in August this year and the highest total for six months.

Of this total, $28.7m was spent betting online and $9.0m at retail sportsbooks. Land-based wagers were placed at physical facilities at Twin River and Tiverton Casino. Twin River took $5.7m in bets and Tiverton Casino $3.2m.

September sports betting revenue reaches $3.5m

Revenue from sports betting in Rhode Island increased by 150.0% month-on-month in September to $3.5m. This was, however, 45.3% lower than $6.4m in September 2022.

Online betting accounted for $2.8m of all revenue during the month. Retail’s share was $663,538, split between Twin River and Tiverton Casino. Twin River posted $441,485 in revenue and Tiverton Casino $222,053.

Detroit casino revenue slips to $101.6m in September

The three commercial casinos in Detroit, Michigan posted $101.6m in revenue in September, down on the same month last year and lower than August’s total.

Monthly aggregate revenue in Detroit was 1.7% lower than $103.4m September of 2022. It was also 3.2% behind $104.9m in August of this year.

Of this total, some $100.0m came from table games and slots, a 0.8% decline from last year and down 4.4% from August.

Retail qualified adjusted gross receipts (QAGR) in September amounted to $1.6m. This was 39.4% less than the previous year but 396.6% ahead of just $322,186 in August this year. Betting handle for the month amounted to $18.1m.

New Hampshire sports betting handle dips year-on-year in September

Consumer spending on sports wagering in New Hampshire declined 14.6% year-on-year in September, while revenue in the state also fell.

Handle in New Hampshire hit $66.8m in September. This was down from $78.2m in the same month last year but 72.2% higher than $38.8m in August 2023.

Online betting accounted for $59.2m of all sports betting spend during the month. Retail’s share amounted to $7.7m. DraftKings is the only operator that offers online sports betting in New Hampshire having secured exclusive rights in November 2019.

September revenue in New Hampshire tops $6.2m

Turning to revenue, this followed a similar pattern as handle. Gross gaming revenue reached $6.2m in September, down 16.2% from $7.4m in September 2023 but 87.9% up from $3.3m in August this year.

Louisiana sportsbooks take record $43.1m in revenue during September

Sports betting revenue in Louisiana reached an all-time high of $43.1m in September, while the state fell just short of its monthly handle record.

Combined online and retail gross revenue was 37.7% ahead of $31.3m in September of last year. The figure also comfortably surpassed the previous Louisiana record of $37.2m set in December 2022.

Of this total, $36.0m came from online betting and $5.7m from retail wagering in Louisiana.

In terms of adjusted revenue, which discounted promotional betting, revenue was $41.8m. This was 34.0% ahead of September 2022.

Louisiana September handle narrowly misses record

Turning to consumer spending, total handle for September stood at $280.1m. This was 37.4% ahead of $203.8m in 2022 and only just behind the record $282.3m wagered in January this year.

ATG bucks the Swedish market with big rise in profits

Aktiebolaget Trav och Galopp (ATG) has welcomed a double-digit rise in operating profit despite challenging conditions that have caused the Swedish market to stall.

In a trading update for the three months to 30 September 2023, the state-owned betting business said net gaming revenue was up 4.5% to SEK1.35bn from SEK1.29bn last year. The second highest figure for a third quarter in ATG’s history came despite the Swedish market stalling in H1.

Total revenue for the three-month period was at SEK1.53bn, which was up 3.0% year-on-year. Net gaming revenue for racing was up by just over 1.8% to SEK1.02bn. Sports betting was also up slightly from SEK151m to SEK159m.

The group made an operating profit of SEK497m, which was up 13.7% year-on-year. The increase was in part down to a 3% reduction in operating expenses to SEK761m. ATG said the savings came from cutbacks in marketing and consultancy costs.

Arizona sports betting spend surpasses $358m in August

Consumers in Arizona spent more than $358.0m betting on sports in August, while operators in the state posted more than $30.0m in total revenue.

Total spend in Arizona amounted to $358.9m. This was marginally lower than the $361.0m bet in August 2022 but 11.1% ahead of $323.2m in July this year.

Arizona bettors wagered $354.6m betting on sports online and a further $3.4m at retail locations across the state.

Player winnings stood at $327.2m, resulting in $30.9m in adjusted gross event wagering receipts before free bets. The latter is 10.7% lower than in August last year and includes $30.2m from online betting and $606,731 retail.

Michigan: online casino jump offsets sports betting dip in September

Online gambling revenue in Michigan increased year-on-year during September, with growth in internet casino offsetting a decline in the sports betting segment.

Gross internet gaming and sports betting receipts from commercial and tribal operators hit $210.4m in September. This is 19.2% higher than $176.5m in Michigan last year and also 20.0% ahead of $175.4m in August this year.

Online casino remains the primary source of igaming revenue in Michigan. Gross receipts in this segment amounted to $166.4m, up 29.3% on last year.

In contrast, sports betting gross receipts slipped 8.0% to $44.0m for the month. This is despite handle increasing by 25.6% to $457.7m.
