Louisiana online betting handle reaches record $245.2m in January

Consumers in Louisiana wagered a record $245.2m on sports in January, although revenue in the market declined month-on-month.

The total spent by players was 505.4% up from $40.5m in January 2022, although the state’s legal online betting market only opened towards the end of that month.

The monthly handle was also 12.1% higher than in December 2022 and 4.9% ahead of the previous record of $233.7m set in November.

Mississippi sports betting revenue and handle decline in January

Sports wagering revenue and handle in Mississippi both declined year-on-year in January, amid ongoing efforts to legalise online betting in the state.

Player spending for the month amounted to $57.2m, down 14.0% from $66.5m in the same month last year and also 23.1% behind the $74.4m wagered in December 2022.

Turning to revenue, this reached $5.1m during January, representing a 21.5% decline from $6.5m in the corresponding month in 2022 and a 54.9% drop from $11.3m in the final month of last year.

Kambi scores retail sportsbook deal with New York’s del Lago Resort & Casino

Sports betting supplier Kambi Group has entered into a retail sportsbook partnership with del Lago Resort & Casino in Waterloo, New York.

Under the deal, Kambi will provide the Churchill Downs Incorporated-operated casino with an on-property sportsbook solution.

The new sportsbook will complement the property’s casino gaming floor, which features more than 1,000 square feet of LED video screens.

Detroit casino revenue up 2.6% to $103.5m in January

Revenue at the three land-based commercial casinos in Detroit increased 2.6% year-on-year in January despite a sharp drop in sports betting revenue.

Total revenue amounted to $103.5m for the month, up from $100.9m in January 2022 but 5.8% lower than $109.9m in December last year.

Table games and slots accounted for almost all revenue during January, generating $103.4m in total, up 4.4% year-on-year.

Delaware sports betting handle reaches $8.5m in January

Consumers in Delaware wagered $8.5m on sports during January, while igaming spend in the state reached $44.1m.

Sports handle was 1.2% higher than $8.4m in January last year and 3.7% ahead of $8.2m in December 2022.

Revenue for the month amounted to $1.6m, which was 114.7% higher year-on-year and 14.3% ahead of December.

IGT expands in Nevada via sports betting partnership with Betfred 

International Game Technology (IGT) has announced its expansion throughout the Nevada sports betting market in a new partnership with Betfred.

Through a multi-year agreement, Betfred will be utilising IGT’s PlaySports technology to support both mobile and retail sports betting at the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook inside Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Betfred plans to launch retail betting first and introduce its mobile fixture at a later date.

This partnership marks the first IGT-powered Betfred sportsbook in the US.

Betfred secures online sports betting licence in Maryland

Betfred has become the eighth operator to secure a licence to offer online sports betting in Maryland, while the group also opened a new retail sportsbook in Nevada.

Issued by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission, the licence will enable Betfred to roll out its Betfred Sportsbook mobile wagering app in the state.

Maryland opened its regulated online betting market in November last year, with Barstool, BetRivers, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel and PointsBet among the other operators licensed in the state.

Playtech enters US retail sports betting market through Gold Rush Gaming partnership

Playtech has announced a new retail sports betting partnership with Gold Rush Gaming, which will allow Playtech to officially enter the US retail sports betting market.

As part of the deal, Playtech will supply its sports betting kiosk software and management systems to Gold Rush, which will be distributed across Ohio.

The rollout will initially cover 50 locations, and will be activated ahead of Super Bowl LVII on 12 February.

DC sports betting revenue and handle down in December

Sports betting revenue and handle in Washington DC both declined month-on-month during December, although revenue increased year-on-year.

Player spending for the month amounted to $18.7m, which was 12.6% lower than $21.4m in November and also 3.1% behind the $19.3m wagered in December 2021.

In terms of gross gaming revenue, this reached $2.4m in December, a 7.7% drop from $2.6m in November, but 71.4% up from $1.4m in December of the previous year.

Kambi extends sportsbook deal with South Africa’s Sun International

Sports betting supplier Kambi Group has signed an extension to its multi-channel sportsbook partnership with South African operator Sun International.

Under the multi-year deal, Kambi will continue to provide Sun International with its sports betting technology and services across online and retail.

Kambi and Sun International have been working together across both channels in the South African market since November 2017.

Listed on the Johannesburg stock exchange, Sun International operates online betting brand SunBet and also owns a number of major casinos and hotel resorts.

“Sun International is delighted to continue its successful sports betting partnership with Kambi and to continue leveraging the company’s award-winning technology and services,” SunBet chief executive Simon Gregory said.

Playtech extends exclusive SSBT deal with Paddy Power

Playtech has announced the extension of its exclusive partnership with major retail and online brand Paddy Power.

The new multi-year deal builds on a longstanding relationship between the supplier and the Flutter Entertainment-owned operator, dating back more than 10 years.

As part of the new deal, Playtech will remain the exclusive provider of Self Service Betting Terminals (SSBTs) for Paddy Power in both the UK and Ireland.

Playtech said the new deal comes amid a period of growing popularity for sports betting terminals in retail shops, which was in evidence during the recent Fifa World Cup. It has recently rolled out new features such as the improved Betbuilder and Player Props.

Colorado sports betting revenue up year-on-year in December

Sports wagering revenue and handle in Colorado both increased year-on-year in December, although player spending was down month-on-month.

Consumers bet a total of $518.1m on sports during the month, up 12.3% from $461.4m in December 2021 but down 6.3% from $552.6m in November 2022.

Online betting accounted for $514.3m of all wagers in December, with just $3.8m being bet at retail sportsbook in Colorado.
