Here’s where Olympic betting is highest in US
According to a Forbes report, bettors in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania have a high interest in betting on the Olympics. Why? Per the story, a heavy interest in basketball – particularly the Celtics in Maine and Massachusetts and college basketball in North Carolina – is one driver.

Another is the number of athletes representing a state in Paris. Of the 592 athletes representing the US at the Olympics, which runs through 11 August, 143 are from California. The state with the next highest is Florida with 50, followed by Texas with 43. Of the three states, only Florida has legal sports betting. There are 31 athletes from New York competing and 20 from Pennsylvania.

On Monday in DC, bettors will have more options

After four years of being limited to offering their digital platforms within a two-block radius in Washington DC, on Monday BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook plan to take off the geofence. Last month, the DC Council passed a new budget that allows for a competitive wagering marketplace. AB 1118 originated in the house, passed the senate and was sent back to the house for final consideration. It’s now headed for the governor’s desk. The key requirement is that a problem gambling hotline number be posted on every advertisement. .

Another bill – that would have required that all applications for three downstate casino licences be submitted by 31 August – did not get a final vote before adjournment on Thursday (6 June). The bill, SO 9673, would also have required final approval for the licences by 31 December 2025.

Legal wagering, HHR ban bill combined in Minnesota

On Friday (10 May) Minnesota state representative Zack Stephenson combined his legal wagering and historic horse racing bills. The house ways and means committee moved the bill, now HF 5274, to the house floor. Should it pass, legal digital wagering would be allowed, but HHR machines would be prohibited.

👀 Speaker Hortman told reporters today that odds of getting sports betting done in these dwindling #mnleg days are going up again — currently at 60-40, she said. Cited productive talks. Said HHR ban would need to be part of any deal.
